If you are a fan of peanut butter and looking for some unique frosting ideas to top a cake, cookies or cupcakes, one of the best is peanut butter cream cheese frosting. This sweet and delicious peanut butter based frosting tastes amazing on any cookie or cake that is chocolate based, nut based or both! It can also taste great with something plain, like vanilla. It can really supercharge a vanilla cake or even banana flavored cake, for instance.

In order to make peanut butter cream cheese frosting you will need a bowl and a mixer. In the bowl, mix 1 8-ounce package of softened cream cheese and ½ cup of creamy or chunky peanut butter, whichever you prefer. Beat with a mixer until smooth. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 3 cups of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. If you want a thinner frosting, it is fine to put another tablespoon of heavy cream.  Spread the peanut butter cream cheese frosting on the cake, cookie or cupcake of your choice whenever they are cool.

If you are looking for a regular peanut butter frosting recipe, there are plenty of them out there. A simple internet search will yield tons, each with slightly different ingredients or amounts than the one before. One of the simplest peanut butter frosting recipes is to beat ½ cup of butter with 1 cup of peanut butter. Slowly beat in 2 cups of confectioner’s sugar and ¼ cup of heavy cream. Mix until smooth then add 2 more cups of confectioner’s sugar. Add additional cream by the tablespoon until the frosting is at the consistency you like. Spread on a cooled cake and enjoy!

Another peanut butter frosting recipe that is a bit more complicated adds chocolate to the mix. This recipe will be mixed in a bowl with a mixer. Beat ½ cup of peanut butter with 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa. Add 2 2/3 cup of confectioner’s sugar, ¼ tsp salt and 1 tsp vanilla. Add ½ cup of heavy cream, beat until smooth and spread on a cooled cake of your choice.

A final peanut butter frosting recipe is here: In a bowl use a mixer to combine 1/3 cup vegetable shortening and 1/3 cup butter. When mixed add ¾ cup peanut butter and 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract. Slowly add 4 cups of confectioner’s sugar, mixing after you add a bit. Once all the sugar is in, add 4-6 tbsp of milk until it is at the consistency you desire. As before, spread on a cool cake of your choice.
