If you’re a dog breeder or handler in Texas or Oklahoma, the Onofrio Dog Shows are important events on your show calendar.  Jack Onofrio, who superintends the Onofrio Dog Shows, is one of only a few AKC Licensed Superintendents who is permitted to send out information regarding shows they superintend.  He’s also the only AKC Licensed Superintendent in the Desert Southwest; the only other similar shows are back East, in the upper Midwest, or in the rain forest state of Oregon.

The Onofrio Dog Shows 2011 are slated for the West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club on September 8 through 11 in Elk City, Oklahoma; the Panhandle Kennel Club of Texas on September 15 through 18 in Amarillo, Texas; and the Heart of the Plains Kennel Club in Lubbock, Texas.

You can enter any of the Onofrio Dog Shows 2011 on line at the Onofrio Dog Shows website.  However, your dog must be fully registered by the day of the particular show or he won’t be allowed to compete.  If you still need to register either a litter or a dog, you also can do that from the website; there is a link to the AKC Online Services site.

The West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club show is a relatively new show.  The West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club only was chartered in 1994, and held their first event in 1995, which was an all breed conformation and Obedience Fun Match.  Today then are licensed for Herding Trials as well.  The WCOKC has been very active in the areas of 4-H Canine Activities and many educational programs.

The Panhandle Kennel Club of Texas, however, is a much older club.  It’s been around for 54 years, and has hosted quite a number of shows.  Its emphasis is on all breed conformation, rally, and all breed obedience.

The Heart of the Plains Kennel Club is another old club, with shows dating back to the late 1950s.  The club holds informal handling classes twice a week to help prospective competitors learn the ins and outs of being in the ring.

If you’re interested in getting a new dog, the Onofrio Dog Shows 2011 are a great opportunity to see many breeds in the ring and decide if one of them is right for you.  Some of these shows also are good times to see different breeds doing what they do best, whether that’s herding at the West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club or rally events at the Panhandle Kennel Club of Texas show.
