The Asian lady beetle, also known as a lady bug in the US can be a huge pest in the home but are very beneficial outdoors. The beetle is native to Asia, but in recent years has taken the US by storm. In many ways they are great.  They control insect populations like aphids, in gardens, with is a huge money saver for farmers and gardeners alike. Considered the gardeners best friend, these small, colorful insects can become downright annoying when they enter our homes in the spring and fall.

The Asian lady beetle likes to hibernate through the winter months, so if you live in a temperate area in the US you probably are well aware of them entering your home and taking up residence. Though they are not harmful to humans, they emit a foul odor and stain walls with a yellow secretion when disturbed. Though many people simply find them annoying, they want them out, so a common question that is always asked is how to get rid of ladybugs in your house.

One of the most common methods for getting rid of the Asian lady beetle is pesticides. There are certainly over the counter pesticides made specifically for ladybugs that you can find anywhere that sells gardening supplies. You really shouldn’t use pesticides unless necessary, so it is recommended trying other methods first like removing them by hand or sucking them up with your vacuum cleaner. They do not bite so picking them up and tossing them out the door is much safer than spraying pesticides all over your home.

Another answer to the question, how to get rid of ladybugs in your house is to prevent them from coming inside in the first place. Making sure all of your windows are sealed completely and filling all cracks in walks, windows and doors is a great way to prevent them from coming in.  You may find a few here or there, but you certainly won’t find swarms. Again, pick them up and throw them away if you find them. You can also spray an insecticide around the edge of your house, that way they will not even attempt a break in.

How to get rid of ladybugs in your house is certainly a common question, but there isn’t really a great answer. You will just need to keep up with removing them, try pesticides if need be and stop them from coming in at all costs.
