The Argosy Christmas ships are an annual tradition in the North West, especially in and around Seattle, WA. For over 60 years, the Argosy Christmas ships have been visiting the Puget Sound area during the Christmas Ship Festival. This festival is a holiday tradition for many people in the area and is sure to go on for many more.

The parade, which is part of the festival, is not like a street parade, it is actually a parade of Seattle Christmas ships that are lighted and decorated for the holiday season. Revelers usually gather along the shore, building bonfires and drinking mugs of hot cocoa to keep warm as they watch the parade pass them by.  Though it is certainly enjoyable to be on the shore keeping warm by the fire, actually being inside the main ship as it sails by can be an unforgettable experience.

The main Argosy ship, known as the “Spirit of Seattle”, offers special cruises during the festival that includes choirs singing the favorite tunes of the holiday season, visits from Santa which are popular with kids young and old as well as a children’s activity corner with all types of holiday crafts and activities to keep the children busy with holiday spirit.

The Argosy Christmas ships schedule their nightly cruises starting right after Thanksgiving and they run, most years, until the day before Christmas Eve.  For an even more memorable journey, these Seattle Christmas ships offer special holiday brunches and dinners that include meetings with Santa Claus and entertainment by some of the best choirs and singers in the area. The ships set sail from various points in Seattle, so there will always be one within a convenient distance from your home.

The other boats in the parade, some also owned by Argosy and others private boats owned by individuals and other companies will also offer tours and rides during the parades, so be sure to look for those offers as well when the time comes to begin planning your holiday activities.

Watching the Seattle Christmas ships and enjoying the parade and festival has been a tradition around the holidays that is perfect for families, couples and singles young and old. With so much activity near the water front during the holiday season, it makes an excellent excuse to meet old friends, make new ones and really experience the values, ideals and traditions of the season with each other.
